Hawthorne Rotary Park belongs to the northern part of Surrey. The park offers beautifully crafted and lush garden spaces. The walking trails all around allow you to enjoy the park’s nature trails. It also has picnic tables and hosts events and concerts to enjoy with friends and families. There are a lot of adventure activities for kids, as the park has tennis courts, volleyball courts, jogging spaces, basketball fields, special playgrounds, slides, walking trails, and biking riding areas.
The park’s northern edge has a water pond visited by waterfowl, while the western edge has an urban forest offering a trail of flowering shrubs and trees. Don’t forget to visit this park, friends, while you are in Surrey!
3. Redwood Park
Are you a botanist or want to know the story of some old-growth trees? Redwood Park is waiting for you!! I must say that it is one of Surrey’s top parks located in the south Surrey region.
The park is surrounded by exotic trees, solid picnic tables, and wheelchair accessibility for the people who need it. There is a sloping lawn adjacent to the parking lot. It has four picnic shelters around the space and a drinking fountain built like a tree, making it concrete and a rustic wood appearance. The park is also known for its little fairy houses, which are enchanting in the middle of the forest area. They are seen in the hollows of the trees or are hanging from the branches and wood logs of the trees. They are all colourful and decorated with accessories to create a kid-friendly nature. I am sure you’ll fall in love with this place.
4. Unwin Park
My next top recommendation is Unwin Park. It’s one of the largest parks in Surrey, BC, spread across 14 hectares. The large playground offers many opportunities and natural attractions as big as the park. I am so excited to tell you what it offers. But before that let me tell you that it is also a good spot to arrange a birthday party or spend some fun time with the kids.
- The park offers many opportunities, such as the outdoor pool, tennis courts, basketball courts, lacrosse boxes, baseball diamonds, and cricket and soccer fields.
- It also has three picnic shelters around the park and is open from morning to evening.
- The park also has an innovative playground tied to the city of Surrey, Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities, and Jumpstart.
- The large playground has accessibility to elements like Sway fun glider, We-Go-Round, Cozy Dome, Netplex, Omnispin spinner, Smart Play Motion, We-saw, Sensory Play Center, Smart Play Motion, Rhapsody music collection, Variety of swings and slides.
5. Sunnyside Park
Sunnyside Park is one of the best-known and lovely parks in the Surrey region. It is spread across 15 acres and is covered with dense groves of Douglas Fir trees. The park offers great activities like tennis courts, an outdoor pool, softball diamonds, sports fields, and two playgrounds. Here you can enjoy nature with beautiful gardens and an excellent place for picnics.
6. Green Timbers Park & Urban Forest
It is among the largest parks in Surrey. For people who enjoy nature, the park offers an extended nature trail of around 10 km. Sounds great! Isn’t it?
The park offers access-related activities, like fishing, picnic tables, and a South Surrey Nature Centre. The northwestern part of the park has a great wandering rock carried out by a block of glacial ice called the glacial erratic. It also serves as a refuge and is known as the potential wildlife area of South Surrey. You can witness a variety of wildlife species, such as woodpeckers, Douglas squirrels, ducks, bald eagles, salamanders, and barred owls. Fishing is such a fun activity here that is carried out all year round in Green Timbers Lake, and no other activities are allowed, such as swimming, water rafting, or wading. So gear up to have all the fun there!
7. Mud Bay Park
Mud Bay Park offers a long 3 km nature trail covered in almost 1.5 hours. I highly recommend you explore the Boundary Bay there. That’s because it’s an important bird area and is the best feature surrounding the park.
One more exciting part about it is that the area looks different during the phases of the day; for example, during the high tides, it witnesses seals and loons in the coastal waters. During the high tides, a flock of birds visits the park, either migrating or reaching the area. Birds like waterfowl and shorebirds are seen. The scenic islands are a great view seen from the park. Due to the shorebird migration, the park remains closed for bikes, dogs, and horses from 15 October to 15 April.

8. Poplar Park
It is located at the top of a ridge site, which gives a beautiful view of British Columbia’s natural landscape. The park offers a lot of green space, which is ideal for picnic locations. It has great views of the North Shore mountains and Fraser Valley. This park offers great space for playing soccer due to its ridge location and the flat surface of the uphill portion. Here, you can also enjoy the great views of the picture-perfect scenic islands.
9. Tynehead Regional Park
It is a great place for hiking and cycling, so I recommend that all adventure lovers keep this park on their list. It has hard-packed trails meandering in the woods and is maintained by the metro city of Vancouver. The park runs along the banks of the Serpentine River and acts as a natural habitat for many bird species and wildlife. Birds like owls, coyotes, and hawks are often seen, while the Serpentine River serves as the home for salmon and trout.
The Tynehead Regional Park is known for its Tynehead hatchery, to witness the species of salmon, mainly from October to December. It has a long cycling trail of around 6.3 km and a hiking trail of about 14.4 km.
